Skynet sunsetting by the end of Q1 2025

Important Notice for Developers

We built Skynet to support developers in Ronin’s early years, and are sunsetting some of these services as we enter a permissionless era. If you’re a Ronin developer, we recommend reading through this announcement to determine how this transition may affect what you’re building. Let’s jump in:

Services Being Deprecated

  • Skynet RPC & Archive Node
  • Skynet Websocket
  • Webhooks
  • Skynet Web3 API

Key Information

Reason for Sunsetting

As Ronin approaches its Opening phase, we're moving towards a fully permissionless ecosystem. This transition:

  • Enables third-party providers to take on greater ecosystem responsibilities
  • Allows Sky Mavis to focus on core products
  • Supports Ronin's permissionless decentralization goals

Available Alternatives

The following blockchain infrastructure providers offer a combination of RPC Node, Websocket, Archive Node, Webhook, and API services. After Ronin’s Opening, more providers may join our movement as well. If you’re a developer, we recommend reading through this list to determine how you can transition before Skynet’s sunsetting by the end of Q1 2025.

Chainstack

  • RPC/WS node with a free tier available. Supports social logins like GitHub and crypto top-up for paid plans. Archive nodes available starting from the lowest paid plan.

dRPC

  • Ronin and Saigon testnet globally distributed RPC nodes, with high uptime maintained by professional independent teams under one load balancer.

Moralis

  • Enterprise grade RPC node API for Ronin and Saigon testnet. Supports full archive nodes and extended RPC methods. Free tier available.
  • Comprehensive APIs and real-time webhooks for wallet, token, NFT, and price data.

Next Steps

We recommend developers review the available alternatives and begin migration planning before the Q1 2025 sunset date. As Ronin becomes permissionless, additional providers may join the ecosystem.

Final Thoughts

Ronin launched in 2021 with a handful of applications – all supporting Axie Infinity. Over the past few years, Sky Mavis built and maintained essential blockchain infrastructure to support a growing community of developers. Today, a new era is on the horizon. A permissionless era. Skynet’s sunsetting furthers this mission and passes the torch to Ronin allies . Let’s keep pushing!
