Web3 API improvements​

Comparing to the REST API set:

  • Better throughput and latency, for getting the same thing, web3 API could offer 3-5x faster than REST API
  • More like rest idiomatic APIs
  • Near real-time balances data, we capture fast finalized data from Ronin, while the REST API serve data at the HEAD - 10 blocks. And same thing with NFTs, Collections data,...

Web3 API limitations​

In the backlog:

  • RNS query is not supported yet
  • Searching NFTs by metadata attributes is not supported yet (soon be available)

Not in the backlog:

  • Searching scope of Txs, InternalTxs, TokenTransfers is not wide as REST API, we reduced searching scopes and optimized the critical parts to keep the system being efficient. Meanwhile, with the supported scope, you're still able to scroll through end-to-end of the results.

REST API​

Our REST API has long been the backbone for accessing essential blockchain data such as NFTs, collections, and wallet balances. While it provided a functional solution, we recognize that it comes with some technical challenges, including frequent maintenance issues, scaling limitations, and higher latency. As the Web3 landscape evolves, so must our technology.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Web3 API—a next-generation solution that not only provides the same functionality but with significant improvements. Offering real-time finalized data, full historical access, superior scalability, and low-latency performance. Web3 API is designed to handle today’s blockchain demands far more efficiently. To ensure the best experience for our users, we will be deprecating the REST API by the end of 31/12/2024. We strongly encourage you to transition to Web3 API ahead of this date to benefit from faster, more reliable data access and avoid any disruptions.
